How to Measure for Perfect Fit Shutters

Follow these simple steps to get the right measurements for your Perfect Fit Shutters. No guesswork. Just an easy to follow measuring guide to ensure a clean fit.

Will Perfect Fit Shutters work on my windows?

Perfect Fit shutters clip into your uPVC window using brackets. Not every window is compatible, so check these three things before ordering.

Checking seal gap

Check the seal gap

Slide a credit card between the rubber seal and the glass.

  • It needs to go in at least 10mm
  • If it doesn’t, these shutters won’t fit
Checking rubber overlap

Check the rubber overlap

Measure how much the rubber seal overlaps onto the glass.

  • If it’s more than 6mm, it’s not compatible
Checking for obstructions

Check for obstructions

Handles, vents, or anything else in the way.

Measuring obstruction clearance
  • Measure from the glass edge to the obstruction
  • You need at least 25mm clearance on all sides
  • Less than that? These won’t work

Measuring Perfect Fit Shutters Step by Step

Step 1

Measure width

Measure the width

Measure between the inside edges of the rubber beading in three places: Top, Middle, Bottom. Use the smallest measurement. Do not include any of the rubber beading or seals.

No deductions are needed; use your exact measurement when ordering.

Step 2

Measure drop

Measure the drop

Measure between the inside edges of the rubber beading in three places: Left, Middle, Right. Use the smallest measurement. Do not include any of the rubber beading or seals.

No deductions are needed, use your exact measurement when ordering.

Step 3

Measure for a mid rail

A mid rail is a horizontal bar that divides the shutter into upper and lower sections and provides stability. It is required for shutters taller than 1500mm, and optional for those between 550mm and 1500mm.

Measure from the bottom of the glass to where you want the mid rail to sit (centre point). It must be at least 275mm from both the top and bottom, but is usually placed centrally.

Important: The mid rail location may be adjusted by up to 45mm during manufacture to align with the slats.

Step 4

Measure frame depth

Measure your handle position

Your frame depth is the depth of your window beading. We need this to make sure we send you the right bracket size.

Available sizes: 18mm, 20mm, 22mm, 24mm, or 30mm.

How to measure:

Place a credit card across the corner of the frame, so it’s overlapping the glass
Measure the gap from the glass to the edge of the card using a tape measure or ruler

Optional step: handle position

You only need to worry about this step if your window has a handle.

You’ll need:

  • Handle location (left, right, top, or bottom)
  • Handle position
  • How you measure the handle position depends on your handle location:

    You’ll need:

  • Left or right handle: Measure from the bottom of the glass to the centre of the handle when in the open position
  • Top or bottom handle: Measure from the left edge of the glass to the centre of the handle when in the open position
  • Note: Handle cut-outs are only needed for windows, not for patio doors.

    Notes

    • If your window is wider than 750mm, we’ll add extra panels automatically
    • If your drop is over 900mm, you’ll get two extra brackets (these will go in the middle of the left and right sides)
    • Measure every window separately - they’re rarely identical
    • Final panel size will be 46mm bigger than the glass for full coverage
